Diversity...that's what keeps things interesting.

Last week we went to Joyride150 for our first time of the season, some of us for our first time ever...we had a great time; riding the crosscountry track, trying the skinnys and swooping around on the pump tracks.

This week a hand injury afforded me the surprise opportunity for a one-poled 10K hike in the forest on a piece of the Bruce Trail hiking trails. The trails would be great to ride but are closed to mountainbikers and horses, so lucky me, I went exploring, the weather cooperated and it was a beautiful very strenuous workout!

I am excited to see what next week will bring!

As the seasons change we need to modify our activities to try, at the very least, to maintain our fitness over the winter, and hopefully build some fitness to come into the next season even stronger...when we are fit and strong the technical part of learning to mountain bike is so much more fun, and way easier. We have lots of diverse choice in our urban setting, of course a couple of our 2012 sponsors offer some great choices: Stott pilates classes can be a great option, strength training with Crossfit Orangeville , or local spin classes at your neighbourhood bike shop or gym and of course one's own bike on a  trainer in the basement (they're always in the basement, eh?).  We can continue to mountain bike outside in the snow, and don't forget the Frostbike Race in Port Colborne in  February, we can snowshoe on the trails,  and we can crosscountry ski, if we get enough of the white stuff. And the ultimate is, of course, a Sacred Rides trip away to a sunnier clime to mountain bike, the Bettys are going to Mexico in February, check it out there's still space for that one!!.

It feels to good to get the heart pumping and the legs pumping and the smile smiling, so good, in fact, that I don't ever want a truly 'off season' - just a different season.

Ride On!                                                                                                                                                                          See you at Joyride!                                                                                                                                                           See you Mexico?!
