Early morning on Christmas morning, my how it changes over the years. This year it is a perfect quiet time for me to update the blog with a steaming cup of coffee waiting for the family festivities to begin. And just to note, it's not that early :)
December has become a time of concerted thinking of others, the wondering what gift to get those close to us that they will enjoy, the wondering what meals and treats to prepare for visitors on holiday and what activities to plan. The wondering if it's OK to say Merry Christmas as an acknowledgement of a person's personal religious beliefs without offending them. We each have our own expectations and fond memories of traditions we have come from in our lives, no one should have to feel the need to apologize for wanting to share joy. It's tricky, I think the best policy might be to spread out this thinking of others all through the year, then it wouldn't be so strange and out of the ordinary that we might be less inclined to take offense. I certainly never set out to offend someone, Do you? Of course not!!! Enough Said, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
Though of course I'm never thinking about just one thing...as the salt fish and ackee cook this morning and the turkey patiently waits to go into the oven, I'm thinking about the Bettys and our fantastic year just passed and the next to come. I've been struggling with trying to sync my ical, blackberry calendar, google calendar and wildbettys.com calendar so that nothing is missed in the planning....we have activities stretching from the bike show the first weekend in March to the Tour de King and the Hardwood Single Track Challenge around Thanksgiving in October as well as, of course, our weekly group rides and socials that are our real raison d'etre. The latest addition to the calendar this week is the Wild Bettys trailbuild set for mid-July...it's a great time since no races or events are planned for that weekend and we are hoping to get out 15-20 volunteers for that build, so save the date!
We are planning a couple of road trips this season too so stay tuned, hope you can join us.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday over the next few days and gets an opportunity to relax and enjoy family and friends wherever you may be. This Betty is off on a
Sacredrides adventure, thanks to Ontario Mountain Bike and the Trailblazing Festival 2011. I am super excited and can't wait to share all about it with you...maybe you'll come along next time wink wink...
Ride On!
Melinda
