This time of year feels more like New Year's than January does for anyone who ever went to school, and that's everybody in this part of the world...it's a time of busy-ness for all those students or those with students they care for and even for those without, it just seems like a good time to start gathering those nuts for winter as the nights close in and the mornings cool down.
But for mountain bikers, it's the time for the Championships (this Sunday, Sept 11 at Highlands Nordic in Duntroon..come check it out) and a time for some fun fall enduro events, like the fall epic 8 hour at hardwood, the tour of king, trail building events and, of course, season wrap-up socials.
Though the Wild Bettys are a year-round club, trail riding in the Don can get limited...first by light (hence we are working on another group buy of helmet lights), and then by frost, which makes our clay trails mighty slippery. There is still plenty of riding to be done it's just not so dependable every Tuesday. Additionally, those day-jobs have a tendency to pick up steam in the autumn and make cutting out for a trial ride on a Tuesday evening hard for lots of our working Bettys. We do have weekend destination rides planned for September and October, check our calendar.
So, our members forum becomes an important resource for us to arrange rides and fun outings aside from our Tuesdays. All members should know their access to the member's forum and insurance with our outings continues through December 31, 2011.
There is also the year end Toronto Bike Show...where, if you know what you are looking for, great deals on bikes can be had for sure....in addition, our general forum is a place for Bettys and friends of Bettys to buy and sell, there's a new carbon offering up there now.
I haven't had the lowdown on the Muddy Monkey's escapades over the last couple of weeks as I have be sorting out the students in my life, but I'll keep you posted when I get the news....I know he went home the last time I saw him with a Betty who got a few bumps and bruises and didn't make it out to the next ride...hope you are all mended now, Julie!! :)

Good Luck to all our Bettys who will be competing this weekend in the Championships...you have all had a great season, and we are very proud of you...after all that work we need to have a celebration and so I propose a social after next week's ride as a start, who's in?
Melinda.
