I am well accustomed to the time zone now after a few very laid back days, did ANOTHER small recovery ride this morning (that's three days of recovery) but today, I felt great. So, I went out for some intensity this afternoon after a lovely lunch at Griffiins (I AM on holidays!!) and actually, I feel awesome...the silly Tremblant shoulder injury is all healed and the ridiculous summer cold (thanks, all you cute little coughing patients) is all gone and I AM READY!!!
I had a fabulous weekend with family and friends and I've moved now to North Vancouver
...I sooo want to test out the trails around here but need to refrain - just move that a little further down on the list of places to ride in the future.
Everything is getting organized...I've pared down and sent back home a lot, well, the new purchases anyway
. I am hoping to update the blog, the twitter, the facebook, during the week if possible - it certainly seems BCBR is trying to make that possible with computers and charging stations at the campsites...we'll see...the connected world we live in is really addictive...but I am looking forward to the serenity of the woods.
Went to the Capilano Bridge with the kids on this trip and in true 21st century style it isn't just a bridge to access the old logging flume track, it's a whole Robinson Crusoe type $100-for-a-family-of-four-experience of walkways high up in the amazing pines and hemlocks of the rain forest here. As a destination, it attracts the urban tourists and is an opportunity for them to soak in the incredible wonder of the woods. These woods ARE particularly impressive being so lush with such gargantuan trees but so is our little urban woods in the Tdot, in its own way. I am so grateful to have found this sport that gives me, a truly happy city dweller, the opportunity to experience the woods daily.
Here are some pics of plants I've spotted here that we have in our Toronto garden that are a fraction of the size of these west coast beauties...wisteria (yeah, ours has never bloomed), goat's beard (a weed, it's true), and these lilies in the canal beside the Dyke in Richmond (unbelievable!), our pond fish would love that kind of shade.
I can't wait to start the race and ride the BC trails....just a couple of more days!!!
Ride On!
Melinda.
