Inspired , that's what I am this morning...last niight I was lucky enough to be able to attend the first Women's Weekend at Joyride...it's on this morning too...so many ladies came out of truly all ages and abilities. Congratulations to the organizers on such a success...but what struck me was how many skills there are to work on...Mike Garrigan asked me what I wanted to work on last evening and I was a little overwhelmed to choose...I was having so much girl fun just seeing all my friends I hadn't seen in a while that I didn't have a clear answer...but after seeing so many of them jumping in the air...I think next joyride outing I'm renting one of their BMX bikes and going to try it....maybe after race season though

I know for my big event this season, the BC Bike Race, I do need to work on the skinnys and bridges they have at Joyride. I've seen the pictures of the race and as Kim Jones was telling my last night, she did it in 2009, , there's loads of raised bridges on the course. I did chicken out on some of the skinnys, despite having great instruction and support from Brad Hunter, Cahley and Mike Garrigan spotting the ladies, my mental image of me falling and getting hurt just got the better of me. It's a common problem in mountain biking and especially for busy minded individuals....the mantra in one's head should only be focused on the task at hand and the image of one's successful completion of that task....but oh those other thoughts intrude....So I have a goal...I will ride all those skinnys I declined last night at Joyride by race season!!!!

It feels good to have decided that...I know I can do it (just not last night )

To all who get to go to Joyride this morning for the rest of the Women's weekend....HAVE FUN!!

Ride On!

Melinda.

Joyride was so much fun. It was fun hanging with all the girls and watching them try new things. I braved all the skinnies except the big scary log. Played on the pump track when it got too chilly waiting around. And took the leap into the foam pit. Such an exhilarating experience to just take a "leap of faith" and conquer my fears. I do hope we can get a group of Wild Bettys out for a day.

Hey Melinda - glad to hear you're working on your skills for the race this summer! Don't worry too much about the bridges - there's not too too many on our current course, although it does vary day to day.
Best of luck with your training - you'll have a blast in July!

So glad you came out! It is worth getting comfy on woodwork, so that when you're out there, you're just enjoying the experience. I will say - the bridges were long and some were high, but none were really technical. If you can master the sport skinnies at Joyride, BC Bike Race will be a breeze.
