It's been a while. We've been riding lots....one Tuesday we got rained out :( but the next Tuesday we rode in the rain!! Carlene and I got absolutely soaked...but our lights worked! Well truthfully, that was after we figured out how to turn them up to full power, then they were terrific and we rode in the warm, dark rain...very slippery on the trails so we stuck mostly to the paved path with a little trail riding in Taylor Creek up to Victoria Park and back to Loblaws.
I have had a few beautiful autumn rides...the temperature has been perfect and for the most part the riding has been dry. I checked out the trails at Hardwood for the 50km Challenge next Sunday....all registered? It's going to be a fun day and I believe the last organized event of the season. The Wild Bettys will be there!
We are planning a weekend ride next Saturday in the Don hoping to catch another sunny, dry day to take in our local autumn colours. I was down on the trails today starting from above the 'new' Evergreen Brickworks, then I rode along the flats to Taylor Creek and the new gravel road along the river to the bridges...it was a very peaceful ride on my single speed. Very pleasant except for the disappointing idling traffic and parking lot at the Brickworks. This is our backyard, it is home to so many animals and it has become a veritable highway with all the people coming to check out the new 'farmer's market'....its a little ironic that all the marketing surrounding this venture plays up the 'green-ness' and yet so far, for a local, all I see is congestion and car exhaust necessitating a new traffic light and an off duty cop to direct the traffic into the parking lot where the other day they were charging 20 bucks to park!!!
There it is; my little rant. I have been stewing about that all day actually.
It still is an amazing corner of our city and I am glad so many are getting to share it, I just wish they'd ride their bikes!! Come join us for the ride next Saturday and you'll see!!!
