So it's back to school and work after summer vacation for the masses but those of us who have been around all summer it's time to cut loose. I'm off to the ultra endurance 100 mile race in Tahoe this weekend www.globalbiorhythmevents.com/.
'Race' is a misnomer from my vantage point, just to complete this event is my goal...my first ever blog entry was on the globalbiorhythms site last September 25th after I participated in the 2009 race only to run out of time 8 miles short of the finish....check out that story, 'Melinda from Toronto eh?' www.globalbiorhythmevents.com/category/blogs/page/3/....this year is going to be different...experience, will of course help..in addition, the added year of training and working on improving my fitness...though often it feels like I'm just keeping up with the atrophy as time does it's thing now that I'm a full fledged grown up but, nevertheless I do believe I am fitter and can complete this event.
Training is a continuous effort...events help to pepper the calendar with mini milestones but the ultimate goal is to be able to feel good by being active and not be limited if you can help it...today on the radio there were two centigenarians being interviewed and the 103 year old gal finished off the interview with the advice; 'Get out and go for a walk everyday, if you can' At 103 that is admirable, but at my stage while I can it's; 'Get out and ride your bike everyday, if you can'. The 'if you can' is a qualifier that is very variable of course....obviously physical limitations would suck but also our mental mood can limit us...especially as that sunny summer heat wave turns to a drab drizzly fall wind...in my eyes though, that's still a great day for a bike ride.
I'll let you know how the event goes...what's your next event?...perhaps it's our Sports Day in Canada event next Tuesday evening....hope so, if you haven't been out in a while or think the season is over...think again, Bettys are riding everyday!!! Come join us.
Ride on!
Melinda.
