The Ontario Cup season came to a close last Sunday with the seventh race, the Championships, in Uxbridge, at Woodnewton. Three Wild Bettys raced at the new venue . It was a great course with lots of steady climbs and twisty single track in the pines. Isabelle had a terrific second race, and I do believe we'll be seeing her at all the races next season!!  Erica did an awesome job finishing 5th in the elite senior female category and I had a race I was pleased with too. I had been working on keeping consistent times for my 3 laps ie not pooping out before the finish, and I was able to do that on this course that really didn't give you a chance to stop pedalling the whole time. Thank you to Steve Neal Development for all the coaching this season for each of the Ocup races.

There was a real feeling of melancholy that descended upon me after the 'big day', knowing that the series was over...  but what's that expression?... .'just as one door closes, a window will open' or something like that, cuz when I thought about it there are other events around the corner: there are some endurance events coming up, like Hot August Nights this weekend,  and the BIG ONE I've been training for is the Sierra Tahoe 100 Ultra Endurance Race  in two weeks...and for the Bettys as a club we also have some opportunities. We are participating in the Liberty Cycle's Squeezer Race at the end of September and we will have loads more  weekly rides  together ...no decision on exactly when we will stop...it will be determined by the available light in the evenings...we've decided to push back the start time to 6pm this next week, please be sure to check the club rides page for details. (and there is talk of night riding with lights!)

A very exciting opportunity has come along thanks to one of our new members, Lisa. The Wild Bettys Club is dedicating our Tuesday, September 14th ride to Sports Day in Canada.

It will be an excellent way to see what we are all about and get a taste for our club. This will be an evening ride as usual but will be open to anybetty who would like to come out. We encourage women of all ages and levels to come out and support the importance of being active ... and ripping up the trails! We are a year round club, with biking options for all seasons, indoor riding, riding in the snow, winter training camps in the sun but our main activity is urban trail riding in the Don.

If you're new to trail riding/mountain biking we will have a waiver for you to sign and leaders to introduce you to the joy of riding in The Don! http://www.cbc.ca/sports/sportsday/

Hope to see you soon!

Ride On!

Melinda.
