It was Thanksgiving last weekend, and I thought I'd make a pie. I've made loads of pies over the years, and some have been a real success and some, not so much. Of course in my memory, those unsuccessful desserts were at the beginning of my pie making career and when the holiday came around I believed that I had so much experience, that making a pie was no problem and I could just bung out a few of the successful ones without really thinking about it. You know where I'm going with this, right? They were OKay, the family and guests, of course, politely ate the two tuff-crusted pies and commented how delicious they were, but Hey!, I was eating it too!!!

Everything in life takes practice to keep up one's skills, and clearly I have let my pie making skills lag in the interest of working on my mountainbike handling skills. I don't want to particularly stop the mountainbiking work in favour of pie baking but it just brought home to me that everything is work...the key is to make whatever you choose to work at to be something that you want to do, you know, have a passion for, so it is fun.
Which brings me round to thinking about my goals. The Autumn brings to a close the race season, and the sponsorship commitments and is the time I prepare my "End of Season Review" for my coach , and all of these are triggers to force me to think about my goals.
Goals are really important to help one stay focused, I personally have such a big list of desired goals that staying on task can sometimes be hard and setbacks and disappointments, which are apt to happen, sometimes make me waiver on those goals, since to switch to perfecting a strawberry mint pie might be easier than working on going faster at an Ocup race consistently for a season. Referring to the goals I had written down at the end of last season has been very enlightening. I think I actually achieved some of them!!! The sense of satisfaction with a Check! on the bucket list can be enormous and very encouraging to move on down the list. And so, that is what I am doing now- making my list for 2012.
In addition to my own list, there is a list for the Wild Bettys. We are having our annual meeting next weekend, it's a potluck, I'm thinking of making some pies . I am really hoping that the Bettys bring to our social gathering their thoughts and ideas and their wish list for the club and race team so together we can reach the one goal I have for sure: to make the Wild Bettys bigger and better for 2012!
Ride On!
